November Legislative Update

Legislative Update

It is November and there is a chill in the air in Tallahassee. Legislative committee meetings are under way; The House and Senate will be holding two weeks of committee meetings in November and in December. Legislation is being filed in anticipation of the January 13th start of the legislative session.

The hot topic to date is property tax relief. The House has seven proposals to slash property taxes.

The Governor also wants property tax relief for the citizens of Florida. He has criticized the Speaker’s approach of having numerous tax relief proposals put on the ballot for voters to choose from but has yet to present his legislative proposal.

This will make for an interesting and potentially contentious session.

The revenue estimating commission is meeting today to put price tags on the known proposals.

The cities and counties are concerned about how these proposals could create shortfalls making it difficult to fund police, fire rescue, and school systems.

It is an election year with the Governor and Cabinet seats on the ballot, along with the entire House (120 members), and half of the Senate (20 members).

Fundraising is in full swing, so any contributions to the FRS PAC, are greatly appreciated:  https://flradpac.org/donate-today/
