On January 8th, Governor elect DeSantis and Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez were sworn into office. The cabinet members CFO-Elect Jimmy Patronis, Attorney General-Elect, Ashley Moody, and Agricultural Commissioner-Elect, Nikki Fried will also be sworn in on this day. The House and Senate will be holding Committee meetings that week as well.
Committee assignments have been made. Senator Gayle Harrell(R) has been made Chair of Health Policy and Senator Lori Berman(D) is her Vice Chair. Senator Aaron Bean(R) is Chairman of Health & Human Policy Appropriations and Senator Gayle Harrell(R) is his Vice Chair.
In the House the committees are structured differently. Representative Marylynn Magar(R) is Health Care Appropriations Chair with Representative Cary Pigman(R) acting as iher Vice Chairman. Representative Ray Rodrigues(R) is chairman of the Health & Human Services Committee and he will be the point person for the Speaker on all health care issue. Speaker Olivia has already indicated a strong interest in making health care more market driven. He doesn’t believe in barriers to competition.
Governor-Elect DeSantis has set up a task force to look at Health care accessibility and affordability which is Chaired by Lt. Governor-Elect Nunez. Representative Cary Pigman (R) is Chairman of Health Market Reform subcommittee and Rep Heather Fitzenhagan (R) is his Vice Chair. Representative Coleen Burton (R) is Chair of Health Quality subcommittee with Rep Rene Placencia(R) as her Vice Chair.
It is anticipated that telemedicine will once again be discussed this session.
There are 38 new members out of 120 in the House and 9 new members in the Senate out of 40.
